Proof Of Principle
Occasionally, product ideas come to light that are on the leading edge of technology. It is thus very cost effective to investigate the technical feasibility of such products by performing what is termed a Proof of Principle investigation.
The focus of this effort is to research the basic principle(s) underlying the product to determine its technical viability. This generally entails developing one or more simple mathematical, physical, and/or software models of the product operation and checking such things as timing, speed, memory, size, strength, and material requirements.
The purpose of this effort is to identify the technology risk portion of developing the product. Favorable results on the proof of principle and market feasibility efforts often form the basis of attracting seed capital for the venture, if necessary.
